Life is messy. It's unpredictable. Untameable.
Sometimes, this means we walk in beauty. Sometimes, this means we walk in pain.
The challenge, is to find our footing in the wildness of it all.
Like many of us, my life has been shaped in ways I never dreamt it would have: with some incredibly joyful opportunities, and some heavy, unexpected transitions too.
Navigating the destabilising experience of grief after losing my beautiful Mum last year, has been the most challenging time of my life. Grief has changed me, profoundly, and I've had to find ways back to myself: back to living.
Hi, I’m Abi!
And I’m so glad you’re here…
I can’t wait to see where we journey together!
Over the years, my threads of love for Yoga, Poetry and the Wild Outdoors have become more intensely entwined, becoming essential parts of who I am, how I live and how I teach. They have become the roots that nourish me; the roots that help me to anchor, and the roots that allow me to grow.
These, alongside my values of adventure, authenticity and heart, have helped me to find my own footing in the wildness of living.
Together, they have woven together to make:
Soul in the Wilderness.
Yoga | Physical Sanctuary
The body remembers what the mind tries to forget. When life shakes us at our foundations and rips us from our roots, we close off, we constrict, become fearful.
I discovered Yoga during another difficult transition in my life, five years ago. My mat, and the practice, became my safe space. The place that would always welcome me, however I showed up. The place that would help me reframe my perspectives, challenge me. A place of deep grounding, an anchor through change, yet a place of deep transformation too.
As someone who feels deeply, the practice of moving mindfully and with intention has changed my life. It has helped me to become steady, grounded and more resilient. I’m able to turn inward, notice what’s going on beneath the surface and weather the intensity of emotion through using the breath. It’s also a place where I can find joy, be curious and explore; playing with new poses and sensations in my body, and adventure on the mat.
For me, the mat becomes a place to lower my defenses, drop firmly into my body and and create a safe house to navigate the intensity of being alive.
“When was the last time you were fully present in the moment?”
Poetry | Courageous Expression
There's no doubt that our internal world can be messy, tangled and complicated. Journalling has allowed me to be present with all the different parts of myself; to witness all the different knotted threads of feeling, when they are impossible to speak aloud.
Over time, this organically transitioned to poetry: allowing my heart to speak freely. I began to share my poetry within a Women's Circle, then more widely, with my friends… and slowly realised, that having the courage to share my heart helped others to feel seen, to process their own experience, and witness themselves.
The written word can give gentle voice to that which is unexpressed; it doesn’t try to fix, it simply holds up a mirror, and allows it to be.
The Wild |Permission to Exist
I've always loved the outdoors, nature and wildlife, since I was little. Making dens, playing in the woods, going on treasure hunts. Now, as an adult, I adore nothing more than roaming the wild Scottish landscapes.
So when my soul needs space, needs to breathe, that's where I go. The untamed magic of Scotland is unique; from vast, open heathland, breath-taking mountain views, to rugged coastline and the cocoon of the forest, these wild, quiet spaces make me feel seen. It's as if the wild within me is mirrored by the wild of nature.
Yet, nature never apologises for its seasons, its changeability, its rawness. The majesty of the landscape stands in all its beauty; it simply weathers, adapts.
Being in the wild not only reminds me that I'm part of something much bigger, but it gives me permission to exist, exactly as I am. Untamed. Unpredictable. Un-curated.
So, what next?
Wherever you are in your life, if you are looking for a space to anchor, wanting to regulate your nervous system through grounded movement, or simply seeking a space to just be you, you are welcome here, just as you are.
